Robert T. Oliver was born in 1909 in Oregon and attended the University of Wisconsin where he received his doctorate in Speech and American Literature. Before coming to Penn State, he taught at Clark Junior College, Bradley College, Bucknell University, and Syracuse University. Oliver wrote or collaborated on several speech books.
